PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION!

TIPS FOR SELECTING A MATERNITY DRESS!

I feel confident explaining what works well for expectant mamas, and what you want to avoid. In my case and type of style , I tend to favor dresses and gowns. A solid, form-fitting dress always looks great. Be wary of wearing scarves, cardigans, or busy patterns. We want to accentuate your belly, not hide it! .

So here is what to look for:

  • A dress that is tight up top, meaning that it is tight to just above the belly.

  • Try a dress that flares out starting just above the belly. You don’t want it to be tight underneath the belly.

  •  Stick with soft pastel, neutral colors. Super dark colors like black or navy tend to hide the bump and make it hard to see in photos.

  • When choosing flowy dresses use a silky or cotton material because they drape beautifully around your round belly and fly with the wind great! Lace material is beautiful, yes! However, to avoid any disappointments be mindful that they do not flow as well in the wind. It really just depends on what look you personally want.

A long flowy dress is a great option and our most favorite to recommend!

There are a couple of great reasons why a flowy (maxi) dress is the perfect thing to wear for maternity shoots. For one, it’s incredibly comfortable. Comfort is key when you are pregnant, and when you’re taking maternity photos for an hour or so, you want to be as comfortable as you can be. It also looks amazing on any pregnant body because it’s incredibly flattering. It covers up anything you don’t want shown, but can also be pulled against the belly to show off your adorable baby bump. A maxi dress is also a very dramatic piece of clothing to wear for a photo shoot. The flowing fabric looks amazing in the wind and creates a lot of movement in a still photo. Having a flowy dress (especially at the beach) contributes greatly in the final outcome of your dreamy photos!

  • Length should be to the floor. Not too much longer than that because you don’t want to trip on it. No matter your height, shape or whether you’re carrying baby high or low, floor length gowns & dresses They elongate your body and flatter your pregnancy curves.

Solid Colors or Patterns?

We know that floral patterns are all the rage right now and rightly so, they are so beautiful. I personally LOVE them. My answer to this question is always wear what makes you feel beautiful, but I suggest that if you would like to wear a pattern dress, to also bring a solid color option as well. Solid colors allow you to be more timeless and not as trendy. We all love the trends, but not care for them as much in 20 years. So we suggest to go trendy and go timeless if you are leaning towards a pattern.

WHEN SHOULD YOU TAKE YOUR MATERNITY PHOTOS?

I recommend between week 30-34 of your pregnancy. The start of your third trimester is the perfect time for a maternity photoshoot. If you decided to schedule your photos sooner, just consider the size of your belly and if you are happy with the size of your bump. On the other hand, if you schedule your photoshoot at the last minute or around your due date, you may find that you start to feel uncomfortable and tired. You also need to be mindful that babies sometimes make an unexpected "early" arrival, so I find it's always best to be prepared!
